Journalists from leading Ugandan media houses gathered at Emiboozi Restaurant on February 13, 2025, for a pivotal Media Café aimed at reshaping narratives around sexual and reproductive health (SRHR), particularly in fishing communities. Organized by FMP, the event sought to address stigma, misinformation, and biases surrounding SRHR, reinforcing the media’s role in advocacy and awareness.
Key Discussions & Insights
The session tackled crucial topics, including the impact of the Global Gag Rule (GGR) on SRHR services, challenges faced by journalists covering SRHR-related stories, and the role of media in amplifying advocacy efforts. Participants also explored the significance of condom use and its correct application.
Engaging the Media for Change

With representatives from NTV, UBC, NBS, Nile Post, PML Daily, Eagle, and Gateway News, the event underscored the importance of balanced, rights-based reporting on SRHR. Journalists raised pressing questions on government interventions, FMP’s strategies for supporting beneficiaries, and how media can drive change.
Building Networks for Advocacy
The café wrapped up with a social evening, fostering stronger connections between media professionals and SRHR advocates. Moving forward, FMP commits to continuous engagement with journalists, ensuring coverage of upcoming moonlight outreach activities and leveraging media influence to challenge stigma and promote reproductive rights.
Stay tuned for more updates as we work towards a more informed and supportive SRHR landscape in Uganda.
