Fishing communities are a beehive of activities and within that nest of nonstop commercial engagements are thousands of young girls and sex workers whose sexual and reproductive health needs are never thought of! It’s pure injustice!
Family Medical Point’s CarePlus Project aims to improve the clinical quality of SRH services, raise awareness among women of reproductive age and sex workers and reorient media coverage of SRHR issues in fishing communities in and around Lake Victoria.
During the project kick off meeting on October 11 held at Banana Eco Resort Entebbe, Enoc Cedikol, FMP’s Service Delivery Programme Manager, thanked SAAF for supporting FMP’s intervention to save young girls and women in fishing communities from avoidable death and preventable unplanned pregnancies.
“We shall work with identified medical centers in each of the selected fishing landing sites to ensure comprehensive rights-based SRH services are delivered at the highest quality possible and every young girl and woman of reproductive age has access to scientifically correct information to make informed choices of what services she can access within her community”, said Enoc .
Moses Odongo, the Executive Director, stressed that the project was focused on responding to the sexual and reproductive health needs of young girls and sex workers whose lives and wellbeing are lost or risk facing debilitating outcomes of unsafe abortion.
