FMP hosted a media café gathering journalists, editors, and sexual and reproductive health advocates to address the critical issue of abortion stigma in Uganda focusing on the role of media in shaping public perceptions of abortion. The café featured a panel discussion from experts and advocates who shared their experiences and challenged the stigma surrounding abortion. Discussions also focused on the need for media to shift away from judgmental narratives and instead provide accurate information that supports women’s health and rights.
In an open discussion, Journalists shared their challenges and concerns about covering abortion stories, with many calling for clearer messaging and professional guidance to improve public awareness. SRHR activists emphasized the need for accurate and unbiased coverage to influence public perception and help reduce maternal mortality caused by unsafe abortions.
The Media Café concluded with a lively social evening, where participants had the opportunity to network, deepen conversations, and explore collaborations for future advocacy efforts.
