Family Medical Point launches the pleasure project that seeks to integrate sexual pleasure in the delivery of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights information and services in Uganda’s fishing community. The inception meeting held at K Hotel, Entebbe on 29 July 2025 brought together key stakeholders including sex workers, community leaders, local government representatives, health care providers and CSO partners.
Sex workers in fishing communities remain the most marginalized segment of the disadvantaged population and are disproportionately faced with stigma, criminalization, and a lack of access to quality healthcare which puts their rights and lives at high risk.

“This project seeks to improve access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services for sex workers in fishing communities, with a particular focus on promoting sexual pleasure to reduce unsafe abortions.” Said Nabwire Polyne, Head of Programs, FMP.

In her closing remarks, Ms. Balega Annet, the Katabi Woman Councilor acknowledged the impact made by Family Medical Point in her community and urged other stakeholders to join hands to ensure the project is a success for the betterment of the community members. “Let’s offer the organization all the support they need as they implement the project.” She noted.
Participants at the inception meeting engaged in open dialogues around policy, service delivery, and community engagement with many of them committing to work together with FMP.
The journey now begins!
