  • Stepping Back to Move Forward: Our Kalangala Staff Retreat

Last week, we took a much-needed break from the intensity of our SRHR advocacy and service delivery work for a refreshing and purposeful staff retreat in Kalangala.
Surrounded by the calm beauty of Lake Victoria, this retreat offered more than just rest—it was an opportunity to pause, reflect, and realign. It gave us the space to step back from our day-to-day responsibilities and reconnect with one another on a deeper level, both personally and professionally.
Over the days, we engaged in powerful conversations, team-building activities, and strategic planning sessions that allowed us to:
• Reflect on the progress we’ve made and the challenges we’ve overcome
• Reconnect as a team and strengthen our bonds
• Reimagine our strategic direction and set clear priorities for the years ahead

It was a time to ask important questions: Are we aligned with our mission? Are we making the kind of impact we set out to achieve? What can we do better, together?
The answers that emerged were honest, inspiring, and full of possibility. By the end of the retreat, we had not only strengthened our strategic plan but also deepened our shared commitment to the communities we serve.
This retreat reminded us that stepping away isn’t a sign of slowing down—it’s a strategy for moving forward with greater focus, unity, and purpose.
We return reenergized, more connected, and ready to keep driving change where it’s needed most.
