On Friday, 15th August 2025, Family Medical Point (FMP) conducted an outreach in Abaita Ababiri market, a busy trading center in Entebbe largely dominated by women vendors and buyers. The activity aimed at equipping women with accurate information on family planning and other Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) issues.
Throughout the day, our health workers engaged women and young people in open conversations about contraception, its benefits, possible side effects, and how to choose methods that best fit their personal needs and lifestyles. The outreach also created a safe space to address deep-rooted myths and fears that often discourage women from seeking family planning services.

“I fear putting an implant in my arm because I was told it moves to all parts of the body and when it reaches the heart, one dies,” shared Nampijja, a market vendor. This was one of several misconceptions our team clarified, explaining how different family planning methods work, their safety, and how to manage any minor side effects.
Women and young people who expressed interest in starting family planning were referred to FMP’s clinic in Abaita Ababiri, where they received services free of charge.

This market outreach is part of FMP’s broader community-based initiatives to bridge the gap between essential health services and the people who need them most. By meeting women where they are—in the heart of their everyday lives—we empower them with knowledge to make informed reproductive health choices.
