  • FMP to launch a Pleasure Project targeting Fishing Communities in Wakiso District

Family Medical Point will engage community members and key decision makers in and around fishing communities of Wakiso district in an inception meeting for the pleasure project that seeks to integrate sexual pleasure in the delivery of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights information and services in Uganda’s fishing community. This is scheduled for 29 July 2025 in Entebbe.

This inception meeting marks the kick-start of the outward facing components of the project following six months of capacity building and training of FMP teams and community structures for successful implementation.  Sex workers remain the most marginalized segment of the disadvantaged population and those in Fishing Communities are disproportionately faced with  stigma, criminalization, and a lack of access to quality healthcare which puts their rights and lives at high risk. These challenges are compounded by limited access to accurate information on safe abortion, contraception, and sexual wellbeing and this directly affects their agency and dignity.

The existing health systems often neglect the realities of sex workers’ lives, focusing narrowly on disease prevention and moral judgments, rather than empowerment, safety, and sexual autonomy. This project seeks to change that.
